The Hawk’s Tale invites families to create patterns, make music using instruments and percussion and explore different emotions, from the excitement of the dragon’s flight to the danger of the night-watch beetle’s approach. Together you will experience new and exciting ways to listen to and appreciate music and the day rounds off with an interactive concert! Narrators, alongside a six-piece orchestra including a harp, bring the story alive through music and interactive characters and costume.
Workshops in composition, movement and song and wrap around art activities, such as building a giant hawk’s nest and making beetle headdresses can be offered as drop-in activities before the concert. By the time the concert begins, children are adorned with beetle headdresses and ready to march and call a dragon as part of the concert. The Hawk’s Tale was originally commissioned by London Symphony Orchestra’s Discovery programme to bring to life the history of the building and the golden dragon who rests on the roof of the church. Originally composed by TDLP’s musical director, Lucy Shaw .
Age guidance: 3 – 8 years
Previously performed at London Symphony Orchestra, Stratford Circus, JAM! Romney Marsh
